Just got back from a weekend trip to Campbellsville KY for a family reunion. While there I met with Mark of ResortsAndRestaurantsForSale.com at a great BBQ joint called the Smoke Pit. I had eaten at the Smoke Pit last year when it was at a different location, but they have since moved to a bigger place on a more well travelled highway between Campbellsville KY and Green River Lake State Park on KY Hwy 55.

If anything, the Smoke Pit BBQ has gotten better since my last visit. As soon as you pull into the parking lot you can smell the smokers doing their job. The restaurant itself isn’t anything fancy but then again the barbecue is the real star. Pat Blevins, the owner has done a great job with the Smoke Pit and I really enjoyed talking with him. Even more I enjoyed eating his food……….. Pat gave us an order of his bbq wings and let me tell you, they were great. The wings were not deep fried but cooked with a sweet smoke bbq sauce that was perfect. I then had a half rack of ribs, potato salad and baked beans. It just doesn’t get any better than that. The ribs were tender and had a wonderful smoke taste and I have to admit the potato salad was as good as my moms. (Sorry mom…). After we were done eating and were relaxing and talking, the owner brought us some home made pie. I had chocolate and Mark had butterscotch. What a way to top off a meal.

All in all eating at the Smoke Pit BBQ was a grade A experience and I highly recommend it as a stop when you are traveling through south central Kentucky. Campbellsville is a little off the beaten track, about 35 miles from Elizabethtown KY and Interstate 65 but it is worth the side trip for some good eats.

Here are a few photos from the Smoke Pit.

I was playing with my MotoQ cell phone yesterday and looking at some websites just to see what they looked like. Guess what………….. if you are on the road and you are looking for a bbq festival, restaurant or competition you can access www.bbq-festivals.com and find them. The format is a little off due to screen size but if you can still see all the festival dates and locations along with links to their sites. The same goes for competitions and restaurants and the rest of the site for that matter. I am probably going to experiment with some formatting and in the near future provide a section of the website that fits mobile devices bettter.

So, the next time you are on the road and you are looking for some great bbq, just hit the internet on your cell phone and there you go…………….. enjoy.

Daniel Hipsher from New Jersey writes to tell us about three of this BBQ Joints and two sauces they have:

“Daniel’s Bar-b-q was started in 1994.Location #1

We also have 2 BBQ sauces on the market.
The Original is a First place American Royal Winner!
The newest flavor is called ” Competition Blend #9 ” It has helped us win several cooking competitions including Grand Champion!

Both sauces are available in 72 local grocery stores and we have shipped them to 32 states and 5 countries!”

Jan from Branchville NJ writes to tell us about Hot Rods Real Pit BBQ in Wharton NJ. Jan says

“My wife and I have eaten there a number of times and the food and service are both excellent. They have baked beans to die for and of course their ribs and pulled pork are great - the sauce they use is unusual but we both like it very much - it is vinegar based. The various meals are priced about the same as other places we have been to and their hours are right for everyone.”

And finally we get an email from someone in TN about two bbq joints with a little bit of a rivaly between them. Neither one has a website but one has some really go reviews on Roadfood.com.

“Ridgewood BBQ
900 Elizabethton Hghwy
Bluff City, TN 37618
423-538-7543

No website but VERY famous. Check out reviews posted on other sites (Roadfood.com)

Pardner’s BBQ (off-shoot of Ridgewood via a family feud and IMHO better tasting)

544 Hghwy 11E
Piney Flats, TN 37618
423-538-5539″

Richard from Norwall MA sends us a link to add to our hot sauces page for Dirty Dicks Hot Sauce

Laura from Alto Travel and Event Management sends us a link to the City of Kennesaw’s 2008 Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival on Friday & Saturday, August 8-9

We love emails like these at BBQ-Festivals.com If anyone finds themselves in TN and can hit these two feuding bbq place please take some photos and send us a review…….

Have a great Q day…………eric

I took this on Saturday in the parking lot of Marketplace Grocery Store in Madisonville KY. Every weekend and often times during the week this guy is there with his smoker, a couple tables to work on and a tent top. And look at the line!!!! It is always like that. And his barbecue is excellent ……….. Not like a slick bbq restaurant we have here in town who shall remain nameless…….. they have bbq that tastes like dried cardboard. That’s another story though.

So if you are in Madisonville KY sometime and you need some good barbecue, be sure to head on down to Marketplace on South Main street and stand in line for a while. It’s worth the wait.
