2008 BBQ Festivals and BBQ Competitions Schedule Updated

Published by bbqman under BBQ Competitions, BBQ Festivals

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2008 BBQ season. The schedule of bbq festivals and bbq competitions has been updated at our main website, BBQ-Festivals.com

Not all festivals and competitions have updated their information but we are in the process of contacting each of them for updates. We are also trying to get a schedule of all KCBS sanctioned bbq events for 2008 so they will be easily identified on our directory.

If you know of a bbq festival or cookoff/competition that we have missed, please send us the information so we can update for everyone.

Monty’s Gourmet Foods - 4 Excellent BBQ Sauces

Published by bbqman under Product Review

montysgourmetbbqsauce_4bottles.jpgThere are hundreds of different brands of bbq sauce out there. Most are really good. Some of the larger commercial sauces are okay and of course every serious bbq’er has their own “home made” recipe. But there are very few bbq sauces that stand out as superior and when it comes to top of the line then it is definitely 4 from Monty’s Gourmet Foods.

Each of these sauces should be at the front of everyone’s bbq sauce collection. There is even one made especially for diabetics. Now how cool is that?

  • Smokin’ Mesquite BBQ Sauce - Monty blends molasses, herbs and spices and I am sure some kind of magical ingredient because this sauce is in a word “perfect”. The smoke flavor is not overpowering, just enough to let you know that the smoke is there. If you like your bbq nice and sticky and sweet then try this one out.
  • Smokin’ Roasted Garlic BBQ Sauce - If they had this in Transylvania, then the ole Count wouldn’t have been a problem. The garlic flavor is not overpowering but it does dance around the tongue. This is my 7 year old daughters favorite. She likes to pour it in a bowl and dip her finger in it. Now that is what I call and endorsement.
  • Smokin’ Chipotle BBQ Sauce - Warmth is the key word here. Take a bite into your big fat juicy pork rib and your mouth warms up while the side of your tongue tingles. Did I mention sweet? This is some good stuff. It doesn’t burn but once you have finished eating you can still enjoy the heat and flavor for a while
  • Smokin’ No Sugar Added BBQ Sauce - I am so happy to see this. A sauce that diabetics can indulge in that tastes good. I am diabetic and I have tried several sugar free or no sugar added sauces and they all have that strange after taste, you know the same kind that the “pink pack” leaves. Monty’s No Sugar Added BBQ Sauce doesn’t do that. It has a sweet taste to it and when you check your sugar levels 2 hours after you eat, you can bet that this sauce didn’t contribute to that 289. That came from all the potato salad you heaped on your plate.

All in all, Monty has a group of winners here. Whether you use the sauces while you are cooking or as a dip, you can best believe you are getting some of the best bbq sauce available.

CharGriller Duo Grill & Smoker

Published by bbqman under Product Review

chargriller_duogrill.jpgOle St. Nick was very very good to BBQHub.com this year. He brought me a CharGriller Duo LP Gas and Smoker/Grill Combo.  What a great way to start out the year. While technically grilling steaks is not really “bbq” it still is a great way to celebrate Christmas. The setup has an LP Gas Grill on the left side and a Charcoal Grill on the right side. I am going to get the smoker box which comes as an accessory next month. The box attaches to the right side and turns it into a smoker. In addition there is a gas burner attached for keeping those baked beans nice and warm.

Features include:

  • Porcelain Coated Cast Iron
  • Stainless Steel Thermometers
  • Chrome Plated Warming Racks
  • 40,800 BTU’s
  • Stainless Steel Tube Burners
  • 12,000 BTU Side Burner
  • Cast Brass Side Burner
  • Adjustable Height Charcoal Grate
  • Side Fire Box For Smoking

I am looking forward to doing my first brisket on this new setup. You will notice my old standby round grill to the left. It has served me well and will continue to use it. For the price, mine was $299.00 at Lowes, this is a great deal. (LP Gas was extra).
